Art therapy is a modality that uses the creative process as a medium for trauma processing, expressing emotions, fostering self-esteem, exploring identity, increasing mindfulness, and conflict resolution. It has the adaptability to be either a structured or unstructured approach and is accessible for all ages. Most importantly, no art skill is needed to benefit from art therapy!
Trauma is an overwhelming experience that can leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves. Afterwards, we can wonder if things will go back to normal. During trauma therapy I help you understand your trauma symptoms and why they are happening. We develop a safe relationship prior to beginning any trauma processing. We work through memories in a variety of ways in counseling such as through art therapy, TF-CBT, and narrative.
Going through mental health issues can be exhausting. In counseling work with you to understand the experiences that have led to the development of mood, anxiety, and addictions. Through art and talk therapy we can work towards finding ways of coping that feel true to you. I aid you in connecting your emotions to your body and ways to develop mindfulness.
Our identities such as race, sexuality, and gender are woven into every aspect of our lives. Systemic oppression and daily microaggressions lead us to feeling lost and disempowered. Through counseling I offer a space where you can share these experiences openly without judgment as well as find empowerment by fighting internalized oppression.
